HISTORY

Our dining room is located in the lobby of the former Canal Commercial Trust and Savings Bank and is graced with tall windows and 22 feet high ceilings. Canal Commercial Trust and Savings Bank was formed in 1924 as a merger between Canal Bank (formed in 1831) and Citizens Bank of Louisiana (formed in 1833).

Canal Commercial Savings Bank and Trust was largely secured by sugar-cane holdings. The bank ultimately failed in 1933 and was liquidated, with its assets becoming part of The National Bank of Commerce in New Orleans - later known as First NBC.

Our building has seen many uses since, including hosting several Mardi Gras balls. Most recently, former owner John Burton Harter was in the process of converting the space into an art gallery when he was murdered in 2002. This heinous crime remains unsolved.

In 2003, Volume Zero architectural design studio renovated the building to accommodate our restaurant. Click here to visit the architect's website.
